Closer, 2024

“Every year I get closer to dying, I try to remember what it felt like to be lost at sea...”

This is probably my favorite piece. I have a history of shooting my doc stuff in Black & White, but it had never occured to me that I should try it with some of my floral work. Part of the reason I used to shoot in greyscale was to mask the era something was shot. I wanted everything to feel timeless.

Applying that lens was actually the missing piece to falling back in love with the process. Instead of masking time however, the gradient masked its artificial origin.
